The same day as our chicks arrived, we went and picked up the boys. We thought they would like to have their own chickens and that the best time to combine with our flock was right from the start.
In Arkansas, it seems you must purchase a minimum of 6 chicks at a time. Seems pretty stupid to me to have such requirements. Anyway, we bought each of the boys 3 chicks apiece to meet the minimum requirement. After much delight in looking and trying to decide, the results were each boy picked a Silver Laced Wyandotte. The older picked a Buff Orpington and Black Copper Maran, while the younger picked a Plymouth Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red to round out his choices.
The brooder flock is now up to 39 little chicks.
